WELSH PRIDE BLOG

My name is Emma Jones. Ever since I learned that my genealogy traced back to Wales, I've been dying to get more information on my ancestors and visit Wales to uncover their footsteps and see my homelands. During spring break 2012, my dreams will come true. This is the blog dedicated to my trip to Wales.

Yesterday my dad told me he was buying plane tickets to London. This is when I realized that I was finally getting to go to Wales.

A lot of people don’t understand what my “obsession” with Wales is all about. Well, let me spell it out for you.

I’m a history buff. I love learning about historical occurrences and examining every angle of them because I feel they’re crucial to understanding society today. I’ve always been fascinated with learning about my ancestry, which I know traces back to Wales.

My first cousin once removed is a genealogist and she’s traced the Jones family back to Wales. Now, in the midst of our vacation planning, she’s digging up more information.

If I could walk the streets that my ancestors once walked on, or see the building that my ancestors once saw, or hear the language that my ancestors once spoke, etc it would fill me with other joy. Because most of my heritage goes back generations, I can’t say I have much “pride” for any other type of ethnicity. I’m basically “american,” and as time goes on and each generations blossoms and dies, we may lose our heritage with nothing but a surname to pin our ancestry.

Not anymore. When I go to Wales and follow the footsteps of my ancestors, I’m going to document everything I see and do that is of importance, and hopefully live to tell my children, and they will live to tell their children, etc.

So please if you have a tumblr follow this blog and if you don’t bookmark it because I want you to go on this journey with me! Maybe it will even inspire you to take a journey of your own.
